They seek to glorify themselves and not God. They claim to serve God but only serve themselves.
The truth can only go in if the selfishness comes out. Otherwise, we say and agree with what benefits us. Notice that Jesus was rejected because he spoke the truth.

Because they can, some people like to make other people miserable and mislead them, they think it's a joke or think it's funny.

depends on what kind of help it is...
most of the time lazy, or
maybe they think you shouldnt ask that and do it yourself...and are wondering when you will catch on...
