My guess would be that you could look on a site that discusses Bridge strategy. The highest rank of the 4 suites is Spades, so, to "deliver in spades" technically means that you've completed your "book" in spades and you win that hand. Good Luck!

it means "in abundance" coming from the fact that spades are the highest-ranking suit in the card game Bridge.

No, those answers above are wrong. A spade is a shovel, so to be deliverd in spades, is when somebodey has to beat something into your head with a shovel so you get it right and they dont have to keep telling you over and over, at least thats what my dad told me when i was a kid, and he beat me with a spade.
