Perhaps because he was the last decent American president.

He is not known as THE president. Sometimes Mr. president is used, but that is used to address all former presidents as a sign of respect for the office.

Anyone who was president will always be referred to as "President" out of respect. BTW, You people who have a comment about Monica Lewinsky I just gotta know. Does WHO you have sex with affect YOUR ability to perform your job? Just because he was president shouldn't have any bearing on who he sleeps with whether married or not. Not a good idea to drag yourself in a bad light holding such a position, but still doesn't affect ability. .

Funny the people who answered this here very negatevely when he ranks as a very good president. He had a moral lasp in office but he is not the president who had tunnels constructed to sneak women in and out nor is he one of the est. 50 past presidents who fathered children outside of their marriage while in office.
Attempts to tie him with 911 are so stupid as to show the answerers lack of knowledge about recent events. The world trade center was bombed{in a lower parking lot}while in his term, 2 years later the people responsible were put on trial and convitted, can you say that about 911?So please when you talk about"honorably" consider the facts.

He wasn't "Honorably Known" as the President even when he was President. LOL.

Technically-speaking, however, protocol suggests that he, like any former President, is still addressed as "Mr. President", even though his term of office is (thankfully) over.
