Hey guys, I am planning on working on doing the Profile in Courage essay to try to win a scholarship for college next year, but I am having a hard time finding someone/an event to write it on. The details about the essay are here:

I've literally scoured the internet for about an hour and a half to find a good person to write about, but have found little luck. Any ideas? Thanks so much for your help!

Thanks for you guys's help. I think George W. Bush would be a little to general, but the other thing I think that might help and I've noticed from past winning is essays are about individuals who made liberal decisions (Which isn't suprising since this is from the JFK library). Also, the person must be an elected offical. I think Jason West would be an interesting one to look into.

Yes, I would pick President George W. Bush. Think about it! He has been courageous in his fight against terror; especially since 9-11. He has endured every kind of assault on his character and leadership. Only a person with the utmost courage would be able to endure the abuse and torture of his fellow citizens.

Added: I wouldn't choose Jason West in that he would not be someone with a value system I admire. He would not be my hero. Many argue that Jason West is unnecessarily involving New Paltz in national politics by purposely engaging it in issues such as Gay Rights and Foreign Relations with the Middle East although others believe that his activities concerning Gay Rights and Anti-War demonstrations were a drastic misrepresentation of his constituency.

What about one of the astronauts, or Teacher of the Year?

It depends I suppose on your opinions on certain issues. You don't want to argue the courage of someone standing up for a cause you don't believe in.

But check out:
-New Paltz Mayor Jason West who conducted gay weddings
-U.S. Army Sergeant Joseph M. Darby who turned over those photos of abuse at the Abu Ghraib prison.
-Sibel Edmonds who was fired from the FBI after allegations she made about security breeches involving Turkish nationals.
-Daniel Ellsberg
-Russ Tice - the source for the New York Times reports on the NSA wiretapping issues

I would avoid someone like George Bush, not by principles, but because of how obvious a choice he would be. They scholarship committee will have to read hundreds of essays on him, and none will stand out in their memory apart from the others. Also, the research would be too broad.

i think of maximum persons have braveness in us. despite if we enable it come to floor or no longer, this is our selection. i in my view attempt to, and desire to embody myself with compatible persons. Cowards are pitiful in my e book. i know somebody who basically at the instant had the braveness to renounce his interest so as that yet another guy, with extra household initiatives, babies, kin, and so on.. ought to save his. it quite is a ultimate prepare of braveness and character in case you question me... to no longer point out kindness. If in straightforward terms all and sundry must be so brave for the terrific suited motives, it can be a large international. each and every of the terrific!
