Click on the boxes, The number indicate the number of mines around it. For example, if the number is 6, it means that 6 out of the 8(max) contains a mine. To help you remember that there is a mine there, use the mouse right click and a flag would appear and the number of possible mines decreases by 1.
The objective of the game is to click on ALL the boxes that has no mines using left click, or right click all the boxes that contain the mines.
Below is a picture showing the example
If you click and it shows the number 6,
Legend---- * is the mines

[][][]
[]6[]
[][][]

to

[] * *
*6 []
* * *

Your objective is to click the [] , not the * . finish the entire screen and you win if you do not left click the *. Right click the box if you think they contain * and left click if you think they do not have mines.

haha. that could be the only game i know how to play from the Microsoft games section. =)

Simple. You can choose "Beginner", "Intermediate" or "Expert".
Start by clicking with your mouse as many boxes as possible that don't blow up the whole grid. (Hee,hee, that's not playing cheat right, but, a strategy).
When, there are many boxes that are bonus opened up for you,
continue by RIGHT-clicking on the neighboring boxes of any exposed numbers.
example, you see this number 1, it means that there should be a mine in the boxes around it.
right-click on the box that you suspect is the landmine.
If you left-click, the whole grid will explode(i.e. game over).

if the number is 3, or 4, that means there are 3 or 4 landmines around the number respectively.

There is a timing to make the game more challenging.

p/s: my own record was 18 seconds for the Beginner grid. =)
Have fun!

You see the numbers in the boxes?

Each box that has a number, as a Mine around it. If the number says 2, there is 2 mines around it. The aim of the game is to not hit any mines. If a square says 1, and 2 of it's 4 sides are already 'opened', than one of the 2 remaining swaures has a mine in it.
The game ends when all the boxes apart from the mines are opened.
