Art is the work of talent and gift. If used on the property of another, it becomes graffiti/vandalism.

The distinction usually revolves around PERMISSION. Graffiti is often removed, regardless of its aesthetics, because the owner of the surface it's painted on wants to assert their ownership. The surfaces that attract graffiti are often really ugly, but an owner will dislike any interference that hasn't been 'authorised' through an official process. Bristol Council has accidentally destroyed several BANKSY pieces (because he's famous, they have a policy of preserving the 'artworks' that he has made in his hometown), during their regular anti-vandalism patrols. Countless other works that are just as attractive as those, are continually wiped out simply because they were made by anonymous painters that the authorities disapprove of. Most graffiti (including simple 'tags', which can be just as decorative as the more artistic 'bombs', IF they are allowed to build up into a squiggly overlapping mass of coloured lines) can look extremely decorative. Some lines in the New York's subway system are famous for the colourful appearance of their trains. This 'livery' was provided (free of charge and overnight) by urban taggers and bombers. But now, security at the depots has been improved, and a lot of the graffiti that appeals so much to tourists is being regularly preserved and repainted by well-paid squads of professional painters. Sadly, the popular notion that these people are the original 'vandals' who tagged the trains, and have now been rehabilitated into 'normal' society and given jobs, IS A MYTH.

Depends! If it is your property or the owner says it was OK then it is art. Vandalism is where do something to there property without there permission. I think that there is some really cool things that are on the sides of building that kids and young adults have done. They are called murals!!! I would defend a person right to express there selves as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else or there property. And yes tagging someone garage is hurting them. The have to pay to have it removed. So as long as you are not breaking the law i think that it is OK.

It is vandalism because the property is being changed without the permission of the owner. It is not yours to draw on. I have seen beautiful graffiti that amazes me by the exquisite artistry, but it appears on property that does not belong to the artist. It is still vandalism. Even the artist wouldn't like someone drawing on his car or apartment or house. It is OK when he does it, but when the shoe is on the other foot he cries foul. It is, talent meets irresponsibility and possible jail time or community service and probation.

Honestly I think Graffiti art is beautiful . I'm from St. Louis Missouri ,and our flood gate goes along the Mississippi river and has graffiti art that goes about 40 or fifty milesf rom Missouri to Illinois . I think that the "art " is beautiful , as long as it is art and not vandalizem .Some people don't know the differance. As long as its your property or you have permission to do so I don't see a problem with it .

I'm sorry, but it depends on the situation.
If the individual "tagging" has permission from the property owner, then it can be art.
However, if there is no permission from the property owner, then definitely vandilism. The person doing the graffiti is then destroying someone else's property and therefore, committing a crime.

Don't be ridicluous. If you do it on your property or you are getting paid or have permission to do it on someone elses property then its cool, but if you are doing it without permission it is obviously a crime and I hope you go to jail for a little bit. It cost people mony to clean graffiti off walls and if your running a business trying to keep on a budget its not fair to have topay to clean up someones idea of self expression. Graffitist are selfish. They just want to draw on s hi t and don't care about tothers

I say art BUT as long as they arent painting up something that isnt theirs....as soon as they do its vandalism. But if they paint up a wall and they are allowed to then they are just expressing themselves and would be a form of art

Graffitti on your own property is art. Feel free to express yourself.
Grafitti on property that belongs to others or is common property is vandalism.
It is not the form of the art but rather the ownership of the medium which is at issue.
