You are bombarding this area with an inordinate amount of specific questions. Are you writing a thesis on the vagaries of gay male social and interpersonal relationships or some such thing? Your enquiries are too finely tuned to be something other than just mild curiosity. You seem obsessed and on a mission of some sort. What is you game, lady?
What do you think we think about men who advertise as tops or bottoms? It is merely a clue to open a dialogue with the guy and saves a lot of time trying to figure it out on the off chance you'll ever hook up with him later on. It is no different in theory than for str8 women, for example, to say they like knitting and puppies. Its application may be different, of course, but you'd tell anyone what you prefer doing with your time too, wouldn't you? You, yourself. And if you ever move out of the class room and into the real world and have the nads to try it out for yourself, instead of getting your kicks through us and our answers, you'll see how much easier it is when you're up-front about things.

It is a self-labeling, so I think it is helpful when deciding who you should meet. It would be no fun if the 2 of you met and wanted the same thing. I think that those web sites saying that they are dating sites are not really telling the truth. Dating? They are more like sex sites. Gay men, and men in general, are very sexual beings so I am not saying the sites are wrong, they do fill a need. So the labels are needed to ensure you hook up with a sexually compatable person. If you are looking for a traditional dating partner, then when you go to a site where everyone has labels, you should move on to another site which is not so sexually charged

Well, I feel that sometimes labels are helpful when they describe what a person is willing to do and is interested in.If two tops, for instance, who both want to be with a bottom and won't be a bottom and meet each other without knowing that both are tops then the relationship is more then likely not going anywhere.Unless, of course, they just want to be friends. But if they only want to be friends why go to a dating website?

It is probably better at the onset to state what your preference is. If both parties prefer either top or bottom then it can ruin the experience for both of them. Versatile people usually tend to go with what they'er feeling like at the time - depending obviously on the person they're with. It is absolutely great being versatile. Are you top, bottom or versatile and what do you think of these ads?

Well I think it all depends on the context. I don't think someone should be really referring to me by my sexual preference, except in some circumstances. Also it depends whos saying it. The word gay has taken on a whole alternative meaning, which is definately not a good thing. "That place is gay" If someone who uses it like that was referring to me as gay, that might strike a chord.

I think Versitale is a safe response, because 9 times out of 10 people are willing to expand thier horizons for the right person. But in reference to your question most times, Yes it would stop someone from responding to others.

It's "Truth in Advertizing" and is great when someone is honest. Finding out facts like this are actually good for the beginning of a firm foundation together. Anyone thinking it offense shouldn't do it, or shouldn't read the ads.
