This question reveals Answerland's lack of a world view when it comes to hockey. They seem to understand the football / soccer thing but they don't seem to understand that there is a game called 'hockey' that is played on other continents.
On this continent and in this country (Canada) we play our hockey on ice and while our history books sometimes record our national sport as lacrosse, it doesn't matter what the books say, our national game is indeed hockey. What other game is embraced so passionately from sea to sea to sea?
OK so there aren't very many of us but nobody is more passionate about hockey than a Canadian. Go Juniors!

Canada has two official sports. (Ice) Hockey was introduced later as Canada's second national sport.
Infact, here from Wikipedia:
"Canada is a nation with two official sports. Since its founding, and until 1994, the official sport was lacrosse, a sport invented by Aboriginal peoples.
In 1994, First Nations groups objected to a government bill that proposed establishing solely ice hockey as Canada's national sport, arguing that it neglected and obliterated recognition of the game of lacrosse, a uniquely Native contribution. In response, the House of Commons amended the bill "to recognize hockey as Canada's National Winter Sport and lacrosse as Canada's National Summer Sport." On May 12, 1994, in Bill C-212, ice hockey joined lacrosse as official sports of Canada."

by the way when people say HOCKEY it means ice hockey, if your talking about field hockey then you call it field hockey. Hockey is the second biggest sport in the world and it's all Canadian. but to answer your question the country's national game of field hockey is India.

Field hockey does not count...sorry.
Hockey is not the official national "game" (sport really) of Canada--lacrosse is. But it's the de facto national sport.
As far as natiosn where it is #1:
Canada
Sweden
Finland
and that's about it...
Russia, Czech and Slovak Reps. all are strong hockey nations but soccer is probably still #1 as far as numbers playing and fans.
