Graphic Design is a field that uses varied art forms, everything from illlustration to typograpy. Graphic Design is virtualy everywhere. The level of creativity difers from designer to designer though.

I just graduated with a BA in Graphic design. During my senior art show, I mostly just hung my fine art pieces. As accomplished my typographic layout is, I figured people would be more interested in my paintings, and pastel drawings, printmaking, etc.

Graphic design is art. Graphic design is not sexy.

Design and art share many basic elements, like line, shape, color form, composition, ect. And there is both good and bad examples of art....and good and bad examples of graphic design. But because everyone has their own opinion, no one person can decide what is good or bad, or what is art or not. personally I believe that quality graphic design, that has great composition, line, and so on..is art. But people who just mess around in Photoshop, without any background in drawing or formal elements of art make crappy designs and poor graphics. Therefore, their "graphic designs" are not art.

Art forms are much more vast and varied than most think. Graphic designing is most deffinitly an art form; as it does do with creativity. I call anything that needs creativity and sometimes imagination an art form

Considering the fact that you can get a BFA in graphic design, yes. Still, I feel kind of cheated seeing it in a gallery.
