You Mum is totally right but you haven't totally messed things up.
The best thing now is to install the webcam via add/remove hardware in the Control Panel.
With the cam plugged in, click on add/remove hardware & go through the wizard.
It will look for plug & play hardware & display a list. It then asks you to click on the webcam device from a list (if it's shown in the list, otherwise click on "other").
Read & answer what the wizard asks for & put in the disk when required.
Hope this helps
Good luck

nowadays with XP, you dont even have to put in the CD, as the computer will ask if you want to check for the software necessary to run the piece of hardware you are connecting/installing. XP will automatically load the driver if it can find them in the computers databank or online. If not, then simply unplug the hardware, load the CD, setup/install the drivers and software then plug in the hardware. I have a 50/50 ratio of the hardware automatically being recognized w/o installing the CD's. If in doubt, install the CD first then the hardware.

just load in the software first then wait for the on screen instructions to connect the camera's USB cable to the computers USB port at the back. should take no more then 10 minutes to complete the installation. oh your mums right.

Its ok if no pop up comes up. Just open the Cd rom contents and see 'setup' icon if there otherwise goto System Properties>Hardware and locate your web cam from the list of devices and mannually install drivers from cd

you need to see if you installed it already. If you have you need to go in an uninstall it. And then you put the CD in and follow directions, it will tell you when to connect the USB cable for the cam.

Always read the directions before doing something....this could have been avoided.
