That's true. Dolls, especially Barbie ones, of other ethinicities are only available as Special Editions. And no way am I spending over $70 at Toys R Us just on some doll. The marketers should expand their minds and ideas, many countries are trading more and more with Asian countries (even if some people may not like to belive it). It's disappointing.
And about Disney fairy tale princesses, that's kind of right. Apart from Mulan, who IS Chinese anyway, I think Snow White was the only one who most closely resembled an Asian person, with her black hair- every other feature about her is caucasian. Oh well. Least Disney had the decency to create a princess from India too...(Jasmine)
I think some doll company should make more of African dolls, that truly resemble a person who's, well, from Africa, not the honey tone skinned dolls. I think black people are beautiful, so why not make dolls of them too?

Sweety, you cannot be serious. You have got to be joking, with that statement, or either you don't get out much. There are ethnic everything in this country now if you just go out and seek it. All nationalities. You just have to do the research. Barbie dolls, come in all ethnicities. They even have various theme dolls, dolls representing holidays and ethnic celebrations. You have to ask for what you want if you don't see it out on display and don't stop until you find it. Maybe you're looking in the wrong neighborhood. Marketing caters to the dollar. The dollars are spend on the ethnicity mostly of that environment. Check it out.

That is partly true. I mean, they only have white dolls, the african-american dolls are usually light skinned(unless they're collectors edition), and the only mexican doll would be Dora and Diego. There really aren't any more variety than that. Now that'z sad. I think those toy manufacturers should really start living in reality.

She's white and plastic. No one can even begin to look like barbie. It's totally unrealistic but I loved Barbie when I was a child -) To add* Barbie comes in all ethnic races now -)

Hey, I am not into dolls. However, my wife showed me some different stores at the military bases on Okinawa which had Okinawan, Korean, and Japanese dolls on sale at the stores. My wife is from the Phillippines, but she has lived here on Okinawa for 16 years, and she definitely knows the differences between the "nationality cues". You may be able to locate these stores by website by looking at Kadena Air Force Base, for example. Good luck.

When I have kids, they won't be allowed to play with barbie dolls and most other dolls like that anyway. It will be mostly educational toys for them. Unless they start making dolls with kinky hair that looks like real black people, not brownskin white people, my daughter won't be allowed to have them. Not trying to sound racist but my daughter needs practice on dolls hair like hers not the long straight hair because she won't be allowed to wear perms anyway.

I know exactly what you mean. I think about that sometimes too. I also think about the Disney princesses and why there still aren't any African American ones yet. Society has a lot of work to do.
