I heard that a few years ago a woman fall down the giant steps as she was climbing up the pyramid and she died. Supposedly, after her death nobody is allowed to climb the pyramid. Is it true?

Sadly, people are not allowed to climb Chichen Itza anymore - I visited in October 2006. Yes, a woman did die, but the main reason for closing it was because people were vandalizing the top chamber (e.g., graffiti on the walls). There had been other deaths (few) in the past, but vandalizing the national treasure was the last straw.
