I had the same problem with my fingernails. They would look short but I never bit them. I would suggest that you take care of your nails; pushing down your cuticles at least 2 times a day, using nail strengthener, or just by using ceratin nail polishes designed to make your nails grow, like protein coats and polishes like that.

I personally take a calcium/magnesium/zinc supplement that strengthens my nails and enhances growth. Here is another tip from about.com:
Nail Growth and Diet
Nail Growth Tip
From Julyne Derrick,Your Guide to Beauty.
The speed of nail growth is increased if you enjoy a healthy diet. It's a proven fact. Illness however, can slow it down.
I'm including some foods that can easily be worked into your diet:
1). An egg salad sandwich that has lots of spinach in place of lettuce and just a little salad dressing.
2). A veggie salad complete with dressing that contains lots of chopped garlic.
3). A wholesome cereal (not the sugary stuff, sorry) along with two slices of whole wheat toast with natural peanut butter. Did you know that there are peanut butters on the market with no added sugar or salt!
4). An omelette with cheese and tomatoes.
5). Grilled chicken on a whole wheat bun.

dont worry about your nails. they dont need to meet any standards. if anyone makes any comments about your nails being short just tell them that their nails are too long and punch them in the head. :D if not, calcium or vitamin E should help

They say that rubbing your nails with garic extract helps the grow faster. Dunno but I used to do it when I was a kid and it kinda worked. Why don't you try it? Just chop off some garlic and rub them on your nails like once a day or a week? But you can just let them grow naturally and have a manicure to have them properly shaped?
