I know it may sound crazy but I think that because of globalization the world is gradually becoming more alike. Eventually we will have a "one world culture" which will be a combination of all the cultures and borders will be pointless

IF we ever get to the point of having "one world culture", then perhaps borders will become pointless. Meanwhile, here and now many of the similarities are fairly superficial. For example, I live in Japan. There are McDonalds & Starbucks everywhere, but it sure as hell ain't Kansas, Toto!
On a political level, the resistance we usually see to increased social mobility is from "developed" countries which are not particularly enthusiastic about allowing a lot of non-natives to move in and start taking low-wage jobs, using social services, etc etc etc. This issue has been the cause of a great deal of tension between the US and Mexico, between the European Union and Turkey, between Japan and many of its Asian neighbors.
In an ideal world, where there was no social inequality, eliminating borders and allowing unlimited freedom to travel and live anywhere you wanted might make sense. In the real world, there are too many nationalists, racists, whatever-ists to make such a dream even come close to coming true. Would that it were different. Walk in peace, brother, and try to make it happen!

I think that if ever happens, it will be hundreds or even thousands of years away. I'm not sure that "democracy" is the force bringing about globalization, either. I think technology is causing the globalization that is occuring. You know, the way Bush is always talking about freedom, but insisting on a war that appears to do more harm that good. I'm kind of disallusioned with Americans talk of freedom and democracy. It seems like other countries that are not necessarily democratic are more peaceful. I'm no political scientist..those are just my thoughts on the topic. Interesting question.

I work in this area in two ways. One in the field of population movement, to which I would say that you need to keep an eye on quantities of people travelling through out the world.
Two you may find the loss of borders and tradition may be lost. Not at all but quicker.
Culture I think is still so diverse that by the time all are the same some nut will have destryed us, and unfortunatley it is going to be the politions / governments some where.

it would be great if all got democracies and maybe one day it will happen but still people got the borders in their mind and sadly that will never change, country should make Gross National Happines(was first expressed by the King of Bhutan His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck ) :) :)
