I am overweight, disorganized, completely lack discipline, I lose my keys all the time. I am basically a slob. I am not in denial of these awful habits and I am disgusted with myself. I need advice from people who have done a major change in their life and have stuck with it. For example went from fat to fit, from a slob to a semi- neat freak. I want to know what people have done to change their lives for the better. I am so unmotivated and very stuck in inactivity. Please any advice is welcome besides "just do it". Obviously that hasn't worked for me. Books, motivating factors etc..., whatever has worked for you please let me know. I do want to change this.

I think a key element is to have a friend/family member that can be supportive and help you. For example, going to workout by yourself might get you a few days, but after a while, it becomes harder and harder to do so. Having someone there to go workout with you will more often than not motivate you and push you to actually go out and work out.

Not only will they be supportive, but they can remind and encourage you to clean up or stop you from doing things that you don't want to be doing (being disorganized, not working out, etc.).

However, it's not something that will be done in a day because Rome wasn't built in a day. It takes time and patience in order to make those changes. Getting people to help you out and keep an eye out on you makes things easier and you can do the same for them as well.

It is very easy. Do not change your basic mindset. You ACTIVELY TRY TO BECOME more totally utterly completely verily DISORGANIZED person. Since this requires you to PUT IN MORE EFFORT, you will automatically do the opposite and may become an organized person.

Think about Einsteien's second law of relativity theory, which states that Relatives are Related or something like that. What I mean to say is if you do something as the opposite of the opposite thing, you will end up getting what you want.

JT's answer deserves some careful consideration as I have tried the other answers and some of the answers you are reading are just plain BS.
Thank-you JT.

I think daily meditation might help. I mean like yoga. Clearing your mind and finding a few seconds of reality for the first time in your life. It can really help with getting organized.
Planning and visualizing your next day when you go to sleep at night will help. Somehow it gets to an automatic part of you and you do the things you plan.

haha I'm trying to accomplish the same things as you! LMAO overweight, lack discipline, don't practice, procrastinates to the point of no return (aka, no way to save myself), etc. Me, I'm making lists, and reading this one book called "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens" (I'm 19 LOL). There's also a book called "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People". They're wonderful books, and I find 'em really helpful. I also told my parents about my goal of losing weight, and so they're helping me, by reminding me about stuff :D Good luck! We can do this :D

Your real problem is low self esteem.Books on how to improve may not work what will work is trying to get the weight down.Strict diets wont work.Getting out and about will.I got out by getting a small dog that has to be walked everyday and demands things be done.

if you want to change your life for the better you should be focus in your goal. Yeah lets say you are unmotivated at this time but once you see the result for sure you would be motivated to do more.

I just made a concious decision to do it, and stick to it. It all comes down to what kind of person you want to be. Do you want to die from an obesity related disease and be a bad parent who can't play with the kids, or a fit and healthy person with a long life ahead of them.

Getting friends and family behind you helps, they can help to motivate you when you slacken off or feel like its a useless battle, but you have to want to do it, really want to do it.

I understand ur problem.
Self-discipline starts with Time discipline. Try getting up and going to bed on fixed time to start with. Later on u can try scheduling time for other routine tasks as well.
Be punctual. Honor ur commitments.
Slowly the self-discipline will be a way of living for u.
Then encorporate exercise in ur schedule and stick to it. once u start it, follow it and see results, it will motivate u further.
Remember, start in small steps.
