I was just wondering. I live in Massachusetts and I was thinking about doing an experiment by traveling down Interstate 95 and stopping in every town. I wonder when I would finally notice the southern accent.

Well, since you are from so far North, with that weird accent you have there ;-) I would venture to say just about as soon as you got near Philly you could call it a Southern accent. If you mean southern like not a Yankee it would be about South Carolina. If you just mean sounds like a rebel it could be as far North as Southern Illinois (say Galesburg area) or even Northern Ohio

I even have lived in Oklahoma very just about all my existence and in Arkansas for some million 12 months. and in Oklahoma maximum persons dont have an rather noticable accessory, despite the fact that this is there. besides the shown fact that I even have by no skill particularly heard an Oklahoman communicate with a real southern accessory, we form of have our very own. i won't be ready to particularly tell the version between a western arkansas accessory and an jap oklahoma accessory. my dad is 87 he has lived in oklahoma very just about all his existence(born in arkansas) and he doesnt have a southern accessory, besides the shown fact that he does have a average twang to it. as an occasion while he says "i admire ice cream" this is stated like "ah like ahs cream". besides the shown fact that he does say warsh, and "over yonder". I even have observed this is generally elderly human beings here who say this.

Sounds like a great experiment, especially that famous Interstate 95!! I'd have to say that as soon as you go into the tip of Delaware, northern Maryland and/or Washington, D.C. Definitely anywhere south of D.C.!!

You will detect a southern accent when you reach Virginia (Richmond), and all the way to Georgia.
