Um... don't you like... um...go to a CHURCH?

From your quesion I guess you don't.

I would strongly recomend a Church marriage, if for no other reason than most Churches have a minimal requirement for counseling before the marriage, and if THEY won't marry you it probably isn't that great an idea to get married to this person at this time. It isn't much of a requirement, but at least it is SOMETHING.

A clergyman is about the only person who will sit you down and make you THINK about what you are doing... your friends won't want to offend you (neither will your family) so you could be marrying Attila the Hun and they will just smile sweetly and hope it all works out. The people you are PAYING to marry you won't say anything lest they not get paid. A clergyman is the only person who doesn't have a stake in the outcome, and therefore is the only person in a postion to say "Hey, wait! Do you REALLY want to get married to a convicted fellon who can't hold a job and has been divorced five times and has six kids by four different women?" When your emotions are all up and excited about a marriage you tend not to think very straight, it is good to have someone else involved.

More importantly having God involved in your marriage and your life makes it a lot more likely that you will STAY married. Any idiot can GET married, it is STAYING married that is the rough part.

Our wedding we did very inexpensively. We skipped a lot of the stupid stuff that wedding planners tell you that you NEED. (You only "need" it because the wedding planners have to pay off last months Visa bill.)

Our rehesal dinner was an Irish Bar we liked to go to. It was a burger buffet and everyone got two drinks free on us (we gave out tickets). It was a lot more fun that sitting in a hotel eating rubber chicken and talking with people you didn't know but didn't want to offend. It was also a lot cheaper.

We had a church wedding. We skipped the limos and drove ourselves to the hall. (We rented an Engineering Society Hall, sort of like the VFW.)

We had a D.J. (not a band). He had a bubble machine and lights and our friends kids loved it. For the meal we had a bar-b-que buffet. (It was the cheapest available meal and we were in Texas so it worked and everybody liked the food.) We did NOT have waiters or a "groom's cake" or outside catering. We had a bar and we set up a poker table and a roulette wheel for entertainment. The roulette wheel was a bust, but the poker game was fantastic. We skipped the photographer and had disposable cameras on the tables. (I think we may have had a photgrapher at the wedding, I know we have a video but I don't remember if we paid to have that done... I think we did.) We didn't have a lot of bridesmaids or groomsmen. The flowers we donated to a hospital (I think) when we were done, and there weren't a lot of them anyway. (What do you need a gazillion flowers for anyway? Everyone is supposed to be looking at the bride, not going "Oh what lovely purple orchids!" and "Are those bromeliads"?)
I think my wife got her dress at a resale shop. I wore my granfathers's tux. My best man wore his class A army uniform.

The point of getting married is that you are making a serious commitment to your spouse ("in front of God and everybody" as they say) and creating a new family. That's a serious matter, so take it seriously. If you just want to throw a really cool party, just go ahead and throw a really cool party, or take all your friends to Disney World. If you want to go on a romantic trip go to Key West, or San Francisco or Vegas... then by all means go...but don't get married as an excuse to do it.

if you know some one with a great back yard that will not cost any money, or someone with a big house. You can rent a boat and get marryed on the boat. I like the idea of a roof top over looking the city, or in the forest or a empty field. Remmber get creative

Check with your local parks and recreation, most rent out old mansions and such for weddings and prices are usually good. It really depends on where you are. My mother used to own a catering business and you'd be amazed the places people find to get married.

My husband and I went to Panama City Beach, Florida and got married! It was so easy. All of my family was able to come from Ky. so they got a vacation and go to our wedding. It was beautiful and I wouldn't have changed anything about it.
