It's easy, make sure it's clear of any unnecessary other plants not unless you have inter-cropping with some fruit trees. Don't throw away waste, put in the base of the banana as mulching and a natural compost. When flower developed into fruit cut the extra flower (some variety doesn't have extra flower on the tip) as this will not develop into fruit anymore. When the fruit bunch is almost ready to harvest cut all the leaves (same idea when you cut the flower) so the tree concentrate all it's energy on the fruit. Some variety again doesn't need this treatment. After harvesting chopped the whole tree off, some like it ground level while some halfway the fleshy trunk. Again don't throw the fleshy trunk away, not unless it has disease. This is the organic way.

it pays to prepare the site well before planting banana,i grow bananas & dig a pit of 2ft square & & of same depth ,this is left exposed to sunlight for a week or two, since bananas are hungry feeders,i fill the pit with rich compost ,then plant ,water as needed, should not dry out totally,& leave it to grow & bear fruit. when you notice the flower has ceased to bear fruit but continues to develop unfurling petal like bracts, then cut the tip.In india we grow many varieties of bananas, some even used as vegetable when raw.
