URUGUAY was the first FIFA World Cup host in 1930. all matches in the tournament was held in the capital city, Montevideo. the first match of the first ever tournament is between FRANCE & MEXICO in Group 1 on 13 July 1930. Lucien Laurent was the first FIFA World Cup goal scorer as he scored in the 19th minute to give FRANCE a 1-0 lead which they won 4-1.
URUGUAY was the first FIFA World Cup champions when they beat their arch rivals, ARGENTINA 4-2 in the final.
