It seems like it might be hard to keep the water right in a bucket. Plus, who wants to keep their pet where they cant see them? I suggest a small tank. 5-10 gallons. He would like it more than being in a little 2 gallon bucket. It would also be better in the long run to get him a "home" in an aquarium.

a 10 gallon aquarium is not very expensive. I mean its not something you go out and buy every day but it can be affordable. It cost about 30-40 dollars for the tank hood and filter if you get it in a package from the pet store.

If your going to get a crab be slow about it. Save up the money, do the research. You dont want a dead crab, you want a nice pet.

good luck!

That would be pretty cruel. There is no way to keep the water chemicaly stable, the salinity right, aerated properly and can you imagine having had the whole ocean to roam in and now you are stuck in a bucket? If you really want to keep a crab as a pet, do some research on environment and care and put them in a largish fish tank, say 75 gallons or more.

No wait, slow down there. Bucket is not a good idea, but jean pocket is. Just put some bologna in the pocket with the crab and make sure your wearing tight jeans.

good luck!
