people says it rains cats and dogs but I have never seen cats or dogs falling from the sky while raining!whats the matter?

since the roofs of houses used 2 be made of straw mostly cats and i guess sometimes dogs would go and sit in the roof 2 keep warm. it would rain and if it rained really hard the animals would jump out of the roof and onto the ground so if it was raining alot then i guess it seemed like it was raining cats and dogs!!
