We tried to do the job on the cheap. Our army has too few infantry, very few counterinsurgency experts, and almost no civil affairs specialists. Disbanding the Iraqi army and allowing a bunch of poorly controlled, poorly trained paramilitary organizations were mistakes. Training of the new government forces was given too low a priority. And it still is probably going to work out, if the American people have a bit of patience and understanding. Amazing! Our military, few as they are, are really outstanding.
