To me, it's not that big of a role. As long as the guy is presentable or at least decent, it's all good.

I'm remarried now, but I used to imagine what a person would look like stripped naked and hosed down!! LOL In other words, I wanted to envision the person with all of the exterior fanfare removed to see if I was actually attracted to the PERSON! For me, clothing does not make the man, the man makes the clothing. I've seen some very unattractive people dolled up, and I've seen some incredible looking people dressed down, but I've heard some women say that they look at a man's shoes to determine whether they are worthy of going out with. That's silly to me.

We can only do so much about our looks, but we can choose our clothes. I think it says a lot. Not that expensive clothes are better, they can just say "I'm high maintenance". Some clothes say "I'm in a sub-culture" - goth, gangster etc. I like a person that is dressed respectibly, their clothes are clean and fit properly, but simple. To me that says "I care enough to make some effort, but I have better things to do than concentrate on my looks"

For me, a lot. I really get into a guy based on his clothes. It says a lot about his personality.
