Who else could you be? You are who you are, they will have to get used to that.

That depends on what your personality is like. It works for some people.
One problem that socially awkward people often have is knowing when and how much to disclose. Telling someone that you just met your entire life story in the name of "being yourself" is too much, too fast. Talking about unpleasant topics like a pending divorce or a bad past experience are also inappropriate topics to discuss with new acquaintances.
People who are going through difficult times are often so wrapped up in their own situation that they don't realize they are giving a little too much info and making people uncomfortable.

Why wouldnt you want to be yourself in a social situation? If you are trying to be something or someone you are not your doing yourself dishonor but not portraying the real you and letting people meet that person.
Dont waste your time trying to impress anyone, and you'll probably find that the people who do respect you are the cool ones that love being themselves too.

People would be so much happier knowing that someone else accepts them for who they are, not who they pretend to be. Be who you are. Don't worry about trying to impress people. You can't make everyone like you. You can only change the way you feel about yourself. If you like who you are then that is all that matters. If you find yourself surrounded by people who can't accept who you are then you are surrounding yourself with the wrong people. Enlarge your circle of friends.

If you are just trying to impress someone once, being someone else might work. If you plan to have an ongoing contact with those people then being yourself is the easiest way to go.

No,it really does not work!
You have to be "others" which can satisfy the needs of your customers, your bosses, even your colleagues, otherwise there will be conflict, like sadam, just to be himself....
In a word, pay attention to team spirit, and compromise is so important sometimes!

You're right. Meditate on this:
"Be all things, to all men".
