It Does make the appearance alot nicer ; however it is also done because some blankets people maybe allergic too it protect them from itching or breaking out in allergic bumps. When i make my bed; i have a top sheet then blanket then another top sheet then bedspread then either a comforter or quilt ; i know this is alot of blankets but i get colder easily then others .

What a relief to know that I will never have this problem. I believe it is to keep the blanket away from the body and therefore keep it fresh longer and free from needing washing. Often in a hotel I have found this and if you stay somewhere in a private home and make your bed, I find it time unnecessarilly timeconsuming to fix it just right again. Thanks to the quilt comforter duvet or sängtäcke or whatever YOU call yours, and the washable cotton bag cover over them, I dont have to worry how pretty my bed looks. It automatically looks and feels great!!

It is so that when you go to bed only the sheet touches your skin and face, not the edge of the blanket.

A couple of reasons one being layers are better to keep you warm and you take off the top blanket when hot, two you excrete sweat and oils that would ruin the top blanket.

All three of the above answers, and two more, some sheets have pretty borders, and you want to show it off. And it just looks neat and nice to do so.

just to make it look better and so you don't have to search for the sheet when you get ready to get into the bed
