it takes a full 30 days (if your talking about birth control pills); there are instructions with the 'script to let you know the truth.
or, call your doctor or pharmacist for the truth. With an issue like THIS, its something that needs to be known.

Even if Yasmin's website says that the Pill is effective after one day, I would follow the suggestion of using a backup method. Most birth control makers are not the makers of condoms, so I doubt they are trying to help their business! Definitely use another form of protection (like a condom) for the first week or so. Remember, it's always better to be safe than sorry!

They would never say something like that to help their business. If it is a well-known trusted company, I would believe that on day 1 it is immediate. Not sure if Yasmin is a type of pill...but I know a lot of pills take 1 month to become effective.

When started within 6 days of the start of a period or within 6 days after an abortion, The Pill is effective immediately. If the Pill is started at other times, it will be effective after one month. To lower the risk of pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, condoms can be used while taking The Pill.

I don't know how fast and effective is Yasmin, but I copied for you some interesting facts about the manufacturer and misleading advertising. I hope it answers at least a part of your question.
"CA and Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin (DTB) applauded the belated Medicines Control Agency (MCA) verdict that advertising for the contraceptive pill, Yasmin, was misleading. DTB had found insufficient evidence to support the claims by Yasmin's manufacturer, Schering, that the pill did not cause weight gain and alleviated pre-menstrual symptoms. CA and DTB have raised serious concerns about the systems for regulating advertisements and the competence of the MCA in this regard. We have also called for Schering to compensate the NHS for the unnecessary extra expense of prescribing Yasmin. "

I have always been told that if you begin at the proper point after your menstrual cycle, it is immediate protection, that is, of course, unless you were already pregnant before beginning the pill and didn't know it.
