D'oh! (slaps self in forehead). It's all so clear now. I spend a lot of time over in the Religion section, talking to people who think if they're good enough, they'll get "raptured" and simply disappear. Always wondered about the quality of thought going on there...

No they wouldn't. The quote is not intended to stand alone, it is taken from a larger work, and until you know why he came to say this, you can't truly understand its meaning.
