Hi,
I dont know whether my answer is the best for your question.
But I would like to express my opinion for this question.

First of all, most people leave their current job because they want more pay. Very few ppl do that for a better job profile.

This is thing is known obviously to the interviewee and also to the interviewer( never thing him/her to be a dumb ***)

So while replying to such question, honestly tell the interviewer that you are interested in his/her company and the work they are offering to you. Pay package do come into the picture but mention it only at the last and that too just for a short while.

Never say that your current job profile or company is bad or worst. Because interviewer will think that next day you will go to some other interviewer and say the same abt this company.

Just say that you didnt like the job profile or you were not exactly satisfied with the job that you had to do. and that you could better in the job profile that this company is offering. Ya, and go on proving why you think that you are suited for this job.

I think once you do this much, you will easily win over the interviewer.

So Go for it man.
Best of luck.
:)

There are a lot of good responses on here - so I'll try not to duplicate but add..

I think you really need to consider how your response to this type of questions sits against your resume (which the interviewer will obviously have) if for example you were only at your last job a matter of months it's a bit redundant to say you feel you progressed as far as you could - this wouldn't really stand up as an honest response.... if though you worked in your last role 12 months+ then taking the "I want to move on to new challanges" line is a solid response....

Best of luck

There's many things that can cause you as "a smart nice guy" to lose a job to a "dumb bad boy", maybe he's had a job before, maybe he was higher qualified for the position or maybe he answered interview questions better, or they could just like how he looks better (A&F doesnt hire "ugly or uncool" people, and doesnt even like them wearing there clothes). There is no real way to answer this, keep trying, shotgun it, send out as many apps as possible you'll get a job soon enough, have some confidence and don't blame the other guy.

Say that you're looking for a change. Say that you've been doing (whatever it is you do, for the company you work for) for awhile and you just wonder what else the industry has to offer.
Say that your experience, skill, and education make you an asset to the company and you earn your salary.

You're seeking new and rewarding challenges or you want to continuouly challenge yourself by not resting on your laurels. Once an employer thinks you are willing to re-invent yourself or take on new challenges(sorry, there's that word again), then they will feel good about your ability to broaden your horizons and grow as a person and possibly as a leader. It's easy to stay doing what you've original been trained to do, but the truly valuable employee is one who will seek to add to their docier.

You could say that you want to broaden your background and knowledge in your field and of course find a position where you can contribute more of your skills. Talk about what you would like to do for a new company.
