The name of the song is simply "War." The artist is Edwin Starr, the album is "War and Peace." The song hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in August 1970, staying at the top of the charts for three weeks, unseated by "Ain't No Mountain High" by Dianna Ross. Starr won a Grammy for Best Male R & B Vocal Performance for the song. Starr died of a heart attack in 2003 at the age of 61. Motown originally had the Temptations record this protest song against the Vietnam War (which was included on their "Psychedelic Shack" album, but decided not to release it as a single to avoid antagonizing their more conservative fans, so Motown chose the lesser-known Starr to record the song for single release, and that's the version that became the big hit.

Edwin Starr. He wrote many other good songs too. The song 'War' came out in 1970. It was no doubt written in response to the war that was being fought in Vietnam at the time. Edwin Starr is no longer with us, he passed away in 2003.

War by Edwin Starr. You can find it on many albums including the soundtrack to "Dazed and Confused" which had many great tunes from that era.

That's "War" which was written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong orignially for the Motown label in 1969. It was originally performed by The Temptations and hit the charts in 1970 when re-recorded by Edwin Starr. It was released as a single, so no album.
