I got an electric guitar for christmas, and it weighs a ton. I was wondering if they are all suppose to weigh so much. The one i have is an Ibanez one. i don't know if that is relevant. Anyways, if you guys know of any lightweight electric guitars brand, model, or any info that would be great. thanks!
and yes it's still heavy even when i am sitting as i have bad back.

The weight of your guitar depends on the style your playing, the sustain, tone your looking for.I had on older gibson that weighed around 17lbs.and a fender thats around 10. Ibanez guitars that weigh alot are good for heavy styles, awsome if you play lead.
you might want to look into a fender brand, they are usually light weight, and still have an awsome sound. some B.C. rich, Epiphone, better yet go to your local music shop and just look around, play a few and get an idea on what your looking for.

It depends on the type of guitar. For example a Les Paul's typical weight is about 10 lbs. A Fender Strat os about 19.

My husband is a professional musician and also sells guitars/shipping included. So these are his comments....

Guitars for light rock don't weigh as much as guitars for heavy metal. Maybe change your tastes...
