The children started short division. The only problem with this is I was never taught or I dont remember how to do Short Division, I only know long division. I feel really stupid and I really dont know who to ask. So could you guys help me out. I need it more so i can help the children, I usually do my division in my head. Please help me learn.

if the question is "divide 32 by 2 by short division method"
you need to do like this-
.2 I 32
... I____

(please join the line next to 2 while doing the sum. here, couldnt help it. And the dots below and beside 2 should not be there)

the quotient should be written below the line below 32
we should start the division from 3 in 32. 3 should be divided by 2.
now, quotient is 1 so we need to write 1 below the line below 3.
now remainder is 1 so we need to carry 1 to the next digit, 2
now we need to take the number as 12
you can also put a tiny 1 on the top left corner of 2 so that you dont get confused
this should be divided by 2, quotient is 6 so write 6 below the line below 2.
it should look like this-
.2 I 32
... I____
.... 16
remainder is 0
so you can write it like this-
.2 I 32
... I____
.... 16 - 0

- if sum is 105/2
.2 I 105
... I____

1 is smaller than 2 so put 0 below the line below 1 and carry 1 to next digit 0
we should take the number as 10 and divide it by 2. quotient is 5 so write it below the line below 0.
now we should go to the next digit 5.
5 should be divided by 2, quotient is 2 so write 2 below the line below 5
remainder is 1 so write it like the previous sum.
this should look like-
.2 I 105
... I____
.... 052 - 1

- if question is
.2 I 205
... I____

2/2=1 so write 1 below the line below 2 in the question
0 is smaller than 2 so put 0 below the line below 0 and carry 0 to 5
05 is divided by 2, quotient is 2, so write 2 below the line below 5
remainder is 1
sum should look like-
.2 I 205
... I____
.... 102 - 1

-if sum is 215/2
.2 I 215
... I____

then 2/2=1so put 1 below the line below 2
next digit 1 is smaller than 2 so write 0 below the line below 1 and carry 1 to 5
take it as 15 and divide by 2
quotient is 7 so write 7 below the line below 5
remainder is 1
so it should look like
.2 I 215
... I____
.... 107 - 1
hope this helps you

Short division is just doing division without writing all the steps below the divisor. For example, figuring out in your head how many times 10 goes into 99, then writing the remainder. So for that example, it would be 9 R9.

Here is an example:

____
6l 540

Divide 6 into 5. It cannot be done (It can be done but most primary schoolers don't know how to) so take the next number and divide 54 by 6 and you get 9. Then say six goes into zero 0 times and put a nought.

Short division is simple, just divide like single numbers into double didgets. Short division is usually division under one hundred and don't have remainders.

it would be kind of hard to teach you on line. why don't you ask someone to help you with it? if you got accepted into NHS then you can't be too dumb...
