Rome was a true Republic based on a Democratic ideal. If one is going to Impeach the President, then all Senators must impeach the president, sorta like that.
There is strength in numbers also there is the shared blame. As Benjamin Franklin said before signing the Declaration of Independance, We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately. So a majority of Senators was chosen or elected to the deed.
Yes it is rather complex, but politics are designed to be complex and understandable enough so that it looks like a good idea. Wilson loved the Country, but he gave the ok to make the bombs that would change Humankind forever.
Julius Ceasar was much beloved by the Roman Citizens, in apperances he was seen,by his choice and decree, as a living God. The man was obviously insane, and there was no retirement or impeachment in that Republic of Democracy. He had triumph winning and ending wars, he was fairly good at keeping the Citizens entertained, but he had a physical and mental handicap. So he must be stopped, to stop an Emporor, you must kill an Emporor, that is how it works.

He was married to Cleopatra at that time. She was a great threat to Rome from the Senators perspectives. Caesar was way too old for her,she was only 18.If Caesar dies the Romans would not like to have an Egyptian queen.
