Is it anywhere near normal to have regular contractions for 3 straight days and still yet they are only coming around 15 minutes apart? This will be my third child and I am 39 weeks and 2 days along.

I have been 50% effaced and 2 centimeters dilated for 2 weeks now as well.

I know that these cannot be Braxton Hicks Contractions because they are not really supposed to hurt and these do.

It's normal.

"A Braxton Hicks contraction is defined by Taber's Medical dictionary as an intermittent, painless contraction that may occur every 10 to 20 minutes after the first trimester of pregnancy. These contractions were first described in 1872 by British gynecologist John Braxton Hicks. Sometimes these contractions are also called prelabor contractions or Hicks sign. Not everyone will notice or experience these contractions, and some will have them frequently. Some mothers say that they notice them more in subsequent pregnancies than in their first pregnancy. "

What you need to look for is if they become painful and get closer together. Personally, I had BH for the entire two weeks before delivering my first son. As long as there's no pain, just that odd kind of tightening, you are fine. Good Luck!!

I have six babies and all of my labors were different. With my last one I was in labor for 2 weeks contractions 10 min apart and I was 50 percent effaced baby was in position but i would not dial ate past 2 and my water would not break. Bottom line is sweetie these baby's have a mind of their own they will come when they want to try a warm shower pull the plug on the tub up and add a bottle of mint mouth wash to the water relaxing your uterus is the best way for baby to come.

May I suggest you stay really close to the hospital? This being your third child, it may come very fast when it gets serious. I was having rather mild contractions, but not close together. They never did get bad. My baby was born within 20 minutes of my water breaking. I had been to the doctor who said I wasn't in labor, left and had a turkey dinner in a restaurant, (the contractions had been 5 minutes apart from time I left hospital) my water broke (how embarrassing) and then went back to the hospital. The doctor said "You again" took a look at me and yelled "NURSE" - and had me signing forms as I was being wheeled into delivery. My third son was born within minutes.

Yes! If they dont hurt bad enough to go to the hospital and they are nnot 10 minutes or less apart, I think that you are OK. Of course they will start coming more and be more painful but until then try to walk around. That will get the contractions coming. If you do go to the hospital, they will have to walk around the hospial over and over until you start dilating more... Why do it there when you can be more comfortable at your own home.Good Luck and congradulations on the new baby:)

One rule I had was that if I couldnt talk or walk through the contractions, it was time to see my care provider.

Once active labor starts, they will progressively get closer together and the tension will increase. The best you can do for yourself is keep active if you can or rest up since its clear your body is gearing up for delivery.

I know its terribly hard to do but you really need to relax. Take long warm baths or showers, read good books, go see a movie. Its best to take your mind off of it until it seriously kicks into gear.

Good luck and Congrats!

It's probably false labor, just try to relax. You'll know the contractions are for real when you loose the plug or your water breaks. Those early pains are natures way of getting your body ready for the delivery.

Yes I was in early labor for four days and wound up having my daughter 2 weeks early. But they would do anything do speed it up because i was only 37 weeks at the time. It was awful.

Yeah, its normal.

A few suggestions to get things going...

Have sex...make sure hubby finishes inside. The chemical in the sperm helps induce.

Swing (on a swingset, not change partners..haha). Don't go really high, but swing if you can.

Drink red raspberry leaf tea...induces labor.

Take a bath (as long as your water has not broken) and try to relax.

Good luck!

It is not normal. Why didn't you go to the doctor yet? Doesn't it hurt badly? How are you able to sleep?
