Well, I would make sure you got the plastic insert kind because the cardboard can be practically impossible to insert for a first timer. No, it won't break your hymen.
If a tampon is inserted properly, a woman should not feel it inside her body. If any discomfort is experienced, it may be due to improper insertion or the tampon may not be deep enough in the vagina. If discomfort occurs, simply remove the tampon and begin again with a new one.
For adolescents and those who have never used tampons before, lubricating the rounded end of the tampon with a water-based lubricant (which prevents irritation) may make insertion easier the first few times.
However, do not use petroleum jelly or any other oil-based lubricants because these are intended for “external use only.” Using oil-based lubricants in the vagina, or other orifices in the body, may provide an environment for bacteria and infection to grow.
It shouldn't hurt and if it does, it is in wrong! Generally, you shouldn't even be able to know it is there.

Sweetie,i see many answers that can be debated, and some of them are simply a matter of preference, not facts.
Before i get started,i will say this. The best person to ask these questions to is your mother,or even another female adult that you trust. They have been there also,so they understand.
Now,There really isnt anything you should worry about. You must change them regularly because you can get TSS.That has been stated above. However, only so many in very few have a chance of getting TSS.
Once a tampon is inserted,if it is inserted correctly, then you will not even feel it.If you do,or feel any pain or you have any discomfort you have inserted it wrong,or not in far enough. If this should happen simply take it out,and start with a fresh one and try again.Every female has been there,no one gets it perfect on the first try,but you just keep trying and eventually you will get,i promise.(Again, your mother can help with this). You could even go with the suggestion from above, wearing a pad the first few times so there are no leaks. When inserting a tampon, you should try to relax.Take a deep breath, and just let your body relax so there is no discomfort.Any female can wear a tampon,it is simply a matter of preference.
Yes,it can break your hymen. However, just because your hymen is broken does not mean you are sexually active or not a virgin.Your virginity is only taken,if you engage in sexual intercourse. There are many things that can break the hymen including sports and horse back riding however, some females are even born without a hymen.Dont let that stop you from wearing them as that is not the way virginity is determined.Back when there were knights and such that used to be a way however, many medical studies have proven differently.
Having said all that, those are facts but,if you are still umcomfortable wearing tampons, dont. You will know what is right for you.No one can tell you, that you have to.You can go to walmart(or any other store) and purchase a travel size box of tampons. They are with the travel size shampoos and shaving cream, etc. They have 4 or 5 in them i cant remember which.Instead of buying a huge box at first, just purchase one or two of those. You can try them,if you dont like them you dont have to buy anymore and wont have wasted money on purchasing a big box of them.If you like them you can go back and purchase a bigger box.Good luck and have a good day hun.

Yes, it can break your hymen. But then, so can a lot of things, including sports or falling down.
When I was around your age, tampons were pretty uncomfortable for me to insert -- I think I may have had a tougher-than-average hymen. lol
Once it's inserted, though, you shouldn't even be able to feel it.
When you're learning to use them, it can be a little tricky, as you won't get that "wet" feeling you do with a pad when it's time to change it. You have to rely on the clock at first.
Also, with tampons there is the risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome. http://kidshealth.org/parent/infections/bacterial_viral/toxic_shock.html It's not very likely, but if you suddenly start running a high fever, you need to get to the doctor ASAP.
I recommend you get one of the varieties marketed for teens. They are slighly slimmer than the "regular" kind, which makes them more comfortable. You might want to wear a pad as a back-up the first time or two, until you get used to it. But after the first couple times, you should be fine.
One of the nice things about tampons is that you can go swimming with them. Just put a fresh one in before you go in the pool, and you're fine. =)

yes it can break your hymen but its often already broken.....
the insertion is fine as long as you take your time, find a comfortable position and dont be afraid to try several times.. its a new experience and takes time to get it right.... make sure you change them frequently and dont forget to remove the last one(i know how could you, but some people are just stooooooppid)... wash your hands before and after. TSS toxic shock syndrome is potentially leathal risk but if you do it right almost unheard of. I still wear a light pad with my tampons because they can asborb their fill and leak through... but you can go swimming with a tampon....just change it as soon as you get out of the pool.....
tampons come in diffferent absorbancies... start light and adjust up if needed....if you get one too absorbant it can become dry and be hard to remove... if this happens try doint in the shower and use the water to get it wet.... all tampons come with an imformative insert.. read it!!!!!!!!!!
oh and when i'm have a tampon i really forget its there...... unless it migrates down then i just remove it and start over...

I used tampons from age 12 on - and I never knew I had a hymen - often wondered if it was broken from the tampons. A tampon is comfortable if inserted properly, you can't feel it. They are known to cause a disease in a small portion of women, (forgot the name of it) - especially if they contain any material other than 100% cotton. They say they can't get "lost" but I had one that somehow got pushed way up (guess I used a second one without taking out the first) and I didn't find it for 6 weeks - thought I was getting an infection. I think I would recommend them overall - they are especially great for swimming.

Stick to pads girl. While they aren't as small, tampons can cause infections and for what reason? So you can wear a thong at that time of the month? Pssh. Plus it's the winter, it's not like you need to go swimming. And you can live without swimming a few days every summer.
Stick to pads, you'll be happier. Trust me.

nicely, the folk above gave you the precise thank you to convince your mom, despite the fact that this is not well worth it to argue which comprise your mom this is going to basically reason fights and he or she in all probability won't provide in. indexed here are some suggestion despite the fact that for hiding your pads. so which you do no longer want all and numerous to verify you taking a pad out of your bag, who does? The pocket would not paintings so nicely various the time because of the fact they stick out of the actual, so indexed here are some concepts.. Do you have boots? Uggs? Fuggs? Snow boots? despite sort of boot you positioned directly to college. Stick some on your boot so they are constantly with you! while you're on the ingredient the place you carry a binder with you everywhere between instructions then have a definite place on your binder or get an acordian (sp?) folder and save them in between the slots, then basically take the binder into the stall with you. Neither of those paintings? maximum colleges/public places have a pad/tampon allotting gadget of their bathing room and that they oftentimes value 25 or 50 cents. So convey some quarters with you and purchase them there in case you've gotten adequate funds to realize this. constantly have decrease back-up however, incase they are out. one extra theory.. based at certainly one of those lavatories your college has you're able to have the skill to cover a pair of pads decrease back there on the start of the day, I doubt all people would be sticking their hand decrease back there. otherwise there is usually a brown paper bag interior the steel field the place you positioned grimy products and you will positioned it exterior of the paper bag (inbetween steel and bag) the place this is not very noticable to human beings, or %. up the bag, positioned some pads down on the backside and place the bag decrease back on actual. human beings oftentimes do no longer pass snooping around interior the stalls so those ought to paintings too. wish I helped!

if your not sure dont use them.
if you want to try them though use the smallest tampon first and test them out in the middle of your period when they are easier to put in.
you can develop an infection TSS but it is rare! use tapons only during the day an only wear a pad at night.
yes it can break your it but if you do sport you may not have to worry bout that as it can strecth or it may have already broke on its own happens with ome women

just like everything in the world, tampons have their pros and cons. if inserted properly, you shouldn't be able to feel it. my advice is to go see a doctor. i did that and she explained to me what the risks are (TSS) and how to properly insert it. and yes, it can break your hymen, but so can little things such as riding a bike.
