You didn't say where you purchased the MP3 Player, or why you were dissatisfied with it. Depending on where you purchased it, you may or may not be able to return it. Depending on the store, they may return it for the exact same model (if something is wrong with the one you currently have). They may offer you store credit (so that you will buy something else at their store). Or, they may just tell you that it's buyer's remorse and you may be stuck with the MP3 Player.
There are a few factors that go into play:
Read the fine print on the bottom and the back of the store receipt. Some stores clearly state on their receipts that if you open an electronics item and it's not defective that they will not return it at all. Some state that they will return defective electronics for the exact same item only (as in swapping for one that works). Some say that they will not take back electronics that are not defective at all if they have been opened. And some say that they will only issue store credit on returns of electronics items.
Return it as soon as possible to the store where purchased. If the "10 days", "30 days", or whatever the receipt states has already elapsed, you will more than likely be "stuck" with the MP3 Player.
If you purchased the MP3 Player on clearance, or during a special sale (such as a Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving) sale), the store has a right not to accept the item, or to exchange it for a duplicate item only.
If you are really unhappy, and have trouble returning it to the store, contact the manufacturer of the MP3 Player, express your disatisfaction, and see if they have a "money back guarantee". Some manufacturer's do, and if the manufacturer of your MP3 Player does, you may be able to get a faster response from the manufacturer then a traditional brick and mortar store.
If the purchase was an online purchase, you probably will not be able to return it, because they think you switched it for another item (possibly one that does not work). They would probably only exchange it for a duplicate item.
If you just don't like it, or decided you don't want it, and you can't get rid of it any other way, you can always try selling it on Craigslist, E-bay, or regifting it to someone who can use it.

Depends on whether the store from you bought offers a replacement warranty...
If it has a manufacturing defect the store may give you a new one..
