You didn't say if they were in a state prision, fed or county jail. So I will go out on a limb and assume you mean state unit.. Most states you can go to the state web site, Look under prisions tab, should be an inmate locater and info section. just put in the inmate number. You should get what unit they are at with address and release date... At least that is how the state of IL works

Well, first of all why do you want to find a prisoner? Hopefully it is to protect yourself or you children. In the state of Michigan, we have what is called OTIS (Offender Tracking Information System). You can enter onto your state's database providing you have one, or actaully the state in which the prisoner is serving time and pull up the prisoners location, overview of offenses, release date, alias names etc..

Depends on what you mean by "find", but most states have online listings of prisoners. Just go to the state government's website and search for it.

some states have an inmate inquiry ( look up) on their corrections or prisons website, I know Illinois does http://www.idoc.state.il.us/subsections/search/default.asp
anyway maybe that state your friend is in custody in has inmate inquiry on its state corrections page or else write to that state's department of corrections or bureau of prisons and give them the number they will tell you where the inmate is being held I do not know if jails have the same thing I am speaking strictly of state prisions (penetentiaries)
