Acura has come out with the RL and TL models after they stopped making the Legend in 1994. I own a '93 Acura Legend that has been kept in extremely great condition. It has Acura stock chrome alloys, heated rear window and side mirrors, power steering, automatic transmission with six gears, power seats, leather interior, automatic windows, factory tinted windows, built-in Bose stereo system with optional six disc CD changer.

Honda never stopped making the legend, in other parts of the world there is still a Honda Legend. We just know it as the Acura RL. And the Acura Integra is not the RSX, the Honda Integra is the Acura RSX here in the states. Acura does not exist in other parts of the world, only in the US. It wont be till 07' that Acura will make its debut in Japan.

Honda's dont have problems with blowing headgaskets. DSMs are the ones with headgasket problems. They blow on average of 15k miles.

Ok all these answers are good, ok some are. Here is the reason they changed the name. Acura was the first luxuary line to come out of a already established auto maker. Even before Lexus and Infinity. Anyway, the Legend was a very popular car with the public but since Acura was such a new company nobody knew that "Legend" was a model name not a car makers name. Later they were also mistaken for Lexus models. Thats when Acura decided to change the name and do a revamp on the Legend and made it the RL.

The RL is the Legend. They just re-named it. In Europe, it is still called the Legend. I have never heard anything bad about an Acura. They are reliable cars. The RL is very luxurious. I have driven one. It looks great inside and out. It has a smooth and quiet ride. There is nothing wrong with Acura's or Honda's.

to compete with Lexus and their Lexus LS model. The Legend never really made sales like the Lexus LS and therefore Acura had to replace it and give it a new name called the Acura RL (Replaces Legend) or Road Luxury in order to keep up with the sales of the Lexus LS. until 2005. They have never really had the success of the LS since Lexus has been selling the LS since 1989. And this is why they stopped production hoping to get an advantage on the Lexus. Hope this helps

Hi, if you think about what you just said you already answered your own question. The Legend was not really discontinued it was simply renamed. This is a very common practice amongst car companies. Sometimes they want a new name for models that had problems or they just want people to look at the redesigned car as a new model. Honestly most cars have problems and I have heard of the Acura Legend having head gasket problems as well as an engine compartment that is very crowded and difficult to work in. I'm sure that mechanics and Acura Legend owners can confirm this. I'm not trying to put down the car at all... I realize they can go 200k miles with no problems, this is just a warning if someone were to buy one used. Other car name changes--- Acura integra -> RSX, Ford Tempo-> Ford Contour, Hyundai Excel-> Hyundai Elantra, etc.

Acura renamed all their cars in 1995 to alphanumeric names (except the integra) (letters and numbers) because that was, and still is, the "style" of naming for import luxury or near luxury vehicles. The Acura Legend became the Acura RL

Honda wanted the Acura name to be more recognized, as it was being eclipsed by the Legend and Integra names. People were more familiar with the model name than the actual brand. So they set out to change that. I think they have succeeded. They continued making and upgrading the car, except they changed the name.

The last years production was simply a special edition to get rid of left over chassis that they had.The car was killed by economics. There were/are lower priced cars in the mid range upscale class that people were buying instead of Legends. Also the design iteslf was "tired".BTW the Sterling was a car that came out in the late 80's was actually a Legend with some minor cosmetic changes.

for the same reason they stopped making the integra. its all about marketing, the legend name had been around since 87 or so, same with the integra . after a production run as long as this they decided to rename most of theyre products. the integra became the RSX (2 door) and TSX (4 door), the legend became the RL, and then they threw in a bunch of midrange 'filler models' (CL, TL, etc..)

They did not stop making it. They just simply changed the name to RL. The Honda version is still called Legend and is only sold in Europe.
