Because it's new doesn't mean it can't have problems too. The thermocouple may have gone out in it. I think you'd better contact the store you bought it from so you don't void any warranties

lets make sure the problem is the heater. Jump the stat out to eliminate it. If the unit does not light it may be the gas valve.
If you have a volt meter check the stat for voltage. Then check the power into the unit. Also with it turned on you should have voltage at the gas valve to open it. Good luck

you have to prime the pilot light
the pilot light has to be lit
for it to work
if there is no pilot light
the gas has to be on..
The pilot light knob may have a twist and press down method of kighting
light a match and then light the little tube that is by the main burner
do not hold the pilot light knob on for to long untill you are ready to light it..
This could build up gas and melt your eyebrows off
good luck
stay warm

Check the power if it is all good blow out all the dust that has built up in the burners. If all of that fails call the 800 numbers that came with the unit. Sounds like they sold you a defective unit.

if the pilot is on I'd check the blower motor... you might have tripped the circut breaker....
if the pilot light is lit it's NOT the thermocoupler people...
