I had a Lumbar Laminectomy back surgery and that didn't work. That surgery was done in 04 on my L5 disk now they want to do a anterior and a posteriorfusion. But I'm afraid because I'm overweight and the first surgery didn't help. I don't want to keep going under the knife in fear that something may go wrong. And this is a work injury so you have to wonder if maybe the doctor's are saying surgery just because.

I recently saw a study that shows a replacement disk has better outcomes than fusion.

And another study questions the validity of the procedure at all - shows it to be generally ineffective short or long-term.

Dr's don't tell you that if you have your disks fused your other disks have to pick up their slack, resulting in worse and worse pain. You should visit a chiropracter and let them know about your situation, they may be able to help.

No doctor should recommend surgery just for the heck of it. It may happen, which is sad, but unlikely.

Also losing the weight will be the best LONG TERM solution. It is hard but once you do it your entire body will be able to hold itself together.
