I found a few websites that sell goldfish - the exotic kind that require a 55 gallon tank. I just want to send my friend a regular goldfish with a goldfish bowl kit (I found the kit). Thanks!! LanieBird.

"regular" goldfish need big tanks. NO goldfish can live in bowls for very long, and even when they are alive they are certainly not healthy. Send a small tank(not a bowl, bowls can not properly support fish) and suggest a betta. If a goldfish is important, send a 20 gallon tank and suggest a fancy goldfish. Only 1! and it has to be a fancy goldfish.

"Regular" goldfish also need large tanks. Even the small, fancy type goldfish need 20 gallons of water each, because they produce so much waste. Regular goldfish - which I'm guessing is a comet or a common? They can grow to 12-24 inches and need very large tanks (100+ gallons), and preferably a pond, to live in.
Anyway, it isn't worth the value of the fish to ship it. You would need to buy a styrofoam box, a fish bag, bag buddies (to supply oxygen), various packaging materials, and, of course, the shipping.

I think you should send your friend a gift card for a petstore, for say 20-40$, and encourage them to get a small tank (no less than one gallon - preferably 5 gallons) and a BETTA fish, not a goldfish, because it would probably cost you as much to ship that in would to just buy it.

that is not a sturdy thought. If via uncomplicated goldfish you advise a comet, than those fish get to be a foot long. have faith me, I even have lots of them complete grown in an exterior pond. you will desire a minimum of a 20 gallon tank, and an tremendously sturdy clear out. Goldfish produce a brilliant form of waste and rapidly grimy up their water. If saved in a bowl a goldfish can surely poison itself with that is own waste. Being saved in too small an area can stunt the goldfish's growth and shorten that is existence span, that's oftentimes approximately two decades.

The expense involved in sending(shipping the goldfish) would not be worth it-send your friend the money and have your friend purchase his/her own. Then Too there is no guarantee the goldfish will arrive alive-many serious problems in shipping of pets etc.

You know people really like to pick out their own "pets". Sending a goldfish to an out of state friend is pretty impractical. I would suggest you send her a gift certificate to a pet supply store or even Wal-Mart (yes Wal-Mart sells live goldfish and supplies) and let her pick out what she wants. Merry Christmas.

I would send the kit and let her get her own fish. That way she gets to pick it out, anyway. But if you're determined, take it to a packing place. With eBay sellers, nowadays they can ship anything!
