What is a GPA or a grade point average ?
Well, it is a system that reflects the average of your performance over all the courses it covers.
It is calculated as follows:
Sum(credit hour of course*grade in course)/sum(all credit hours)
Where the first sum is over all courses.
Use the following:(although it might slightly differ in different institutions)
A+ 4
A 3.75
B+ 3.5
B 3
C+ 2.5
C 2
D+ 1.5
D 1
For example, suppose we have:
chem101 4 credit hours C+
phys101 4 credit hours B+
math101 4 credit hours B
eng 101 3 credit hours A
Then, the GPA is
(4*2.5+4*3.5+4*3+3*3.75)/
(4+4+4+3)
= (10+14+12+11.25)/15 = 47.25/15 = 3.15
so the GPA in this case is 3.15 out of 4, which is a little over B(3.0)

a 2.62 is a C+ (on the high side of it).
The trick is to multiply the gpa by 3, and you get 7.86, and then use this scale:
A....12
A-...11
B+..10
B....9
B-...8
C+..7
C....6
C-...5
D+..4
D....3
D-...2
As you can see, this shows that if you have a 4.0, you have a solid A, 3.0 is a solid B, 2.0 is a solid C, etc.
