you have both options. First install an antivirus software as free thenb, if you are satisfied you can buy. I can give a few links that offer free virus and spyware removers...!You may be having a virus or spyware installed on your PC. Norton, AVG , Avast are free antivirus software. Ad-aware, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at

It's usually cheaper to buy things online if you look at the right places. If you're a student at a university, you may be able to get cheap software through www.journeyed.com. Sometimes the university will have a free download of antivirus software. If not, try websites like www.tigerdirect.com or www.newegg.com.

Same product - only the price will differ. Just be sure to get the CD with product key in case you ever have to reinstall.
If you are interested in Norton, for example, go to www.bizrate.com and run a search. You will get a list of sellers in order of price.

It depends on if you have a fast connection - dial-up connection would take your forever. Besides that, sometimes the instructions given online are not easy to follow for the average user - i.e. Norton.

You don't need to BUY anti-virus software. The "AVG" program from grisoft is the best and it's free for download:

Buy it over the internet, like on eBay. Its much cheaper, if you use a credit card, someone might still your credit card details.
