The meaning of life is cheese. Move to Wisconsin.
I dunno but maybe live each day like it's your last.

Let me guess, you are young. As the saying goes, youth is wasted on the young. Whether life is torture or a wonderful journey is totally dependent on your way of looking at it. Even people who have outlooks like yours often change their views when faced with imminant death. Suddenly the sunshine, the sunsets and sunrises, the flowers, the rain and snow, the children's faces, the antics of puppies, the cuteness of a fluffy kitten, the ebb and flow of the ocean, music, food - all take on greater value. You suddenly realize the importance of the little things. You are grateful for your chance to enjoy them. However, it does seem a shame to spend a lifetime learning and then have it go into oblivion when its your time to die. Maybe there is a use for it later, maybe in an afterlife or maybe in a rebirth. In this society where age is far from respected, nearly all the wisdom and knowledge gained by the aged is lost to mankind. The wheel must be reinvented over and over. No wonder progress is slow.

Preface: That's not it.
1. First you go through the childhood baggage phase & sort it out — it takes ruthlessness with one's self to do this.
2. Then you go through 'young & stupid', but learn from your mistakes.
3. Then you evolve above ridiculous selfish goals & expectations on your position in the big scheme of things & people in your personal life.
4. You live your life & you don't meddle, trying to live two or more lives at once — that would entail real control issues. Allowing others to learn by their mistakes is a real act of selflessness.
5. You recognize that each individual has their special path & time to shine on Earth, & you respect & allow them to do so. You realize when others are better suited for the task than yourself.
6. You make the most of each day & try to make it your happiest yet, because life is uncertain, and short.
7. You love, because you can, and never stop, even when one relationship is a no-go, because deep down you realize that there is a streetcar leaving every 10 minutes.
Good Luck and Warm Wishes.

We are an interdependent society. Everything we do affects another, usually many others. Life has no real purpose, and when one talks about it like a repetitive task, it really is meaningless.
For example, when you were born, and because of it, lots of doctors/nurses were paid, lots of food was consumed, which paid a lot of businesses, which paid a lot of farmers and industry workers. They then used the money elsewhere, and so on and so forth. Just your birth affected people's lives all over the globe
Imagine the repercussions of all your other mundane daily tasks.
Coming back to the 'Purpose of Life'. Truthfully, there is none. If there is one, it is yet to be discovered. Why not dedicate your life to finding it? I started with trying to understand the universe around me. The purpose of the universe should logically be intertwined with our purpose. When i still found no answers, I decided to wait for death (suicide needs guts!). I got bored. I thought, while I'm waiting, why not try everything life has to offer? What's the worse that can happen: the wait will shorten.
I hope that on your journey, you find peace, pleasure, and purpose...

Dear Red Hat girl, get a grip, it can't be that bad, sounds like you got to do some neat stuff, got a job, home, bed, food, you didn't mention any health problems, sounds like you should go on vacation to a third world country and look around, hey try Ethiopia, or Somalia, bet you couldn't get back home fast enough.
Sounds like your real problem is with being thankful for what you have. We are here to learn about things, all things, what we like, what we don't like and how to appreciate things when they are good. Learning how to care about other people is probably the most important thing we can learn. Look outward and quit whining!

Hah! You forget one thing. In all of that, you can smack a truck head-on tomorrow and be gone. There's no end to the bad things that can take you off this earth, and as you grow older, more people you know won't make it. Life is to survive! You don't do that by accident. You just aren't paying enough attention to the opportunities you have in front of you. Ya know, you could buy someone a coke and break that monotony you have going on.

I know! You put it very well :-D
If there's a God, at least there's a purpose to it all. If not, just try your best, eh! There will be tough times - trying to afford a mortgage/car/family....and easier times, when you can take a break, relax.....then await some more tough times.
Anyway, I kept trying to do some good deeds this Christmas....haven't fully succeeded yet. I want to improve your life by buying you a New Year's present. Can have it delivered to a post office so you don't need to give away your address. Just email :-D.

The point of life is to enjoy it most people have lost that knowledge and believe personal gain far more important and surround themselves with tasks so that one day long after they have a heart attack they won't have as much to do as they do now.
But what life should be is live die and have as much fun in between as possible.

Well, I feel like I've never felt the way you do. I've had enough crap in my life that I love it when it's boring and the same. I have no idea how or why I keep going on but some of it's instinctive, other of it is chemical -- I have friends who suffer from depression who barely make it from day to day.

We will never understand the why of this life. Even those of us who believe in God. The key is that we just have one life.
It is up to us to make it a good life or a poorly spent one. We have the choice.
If it feels like torture you just might be depressed. Talk to your doctor please

The universe.. all that exists as matter.. just "is" - we are all made of the same "stuff" as the stars.. and think of Murphy's "law" - lol.. everything goes downhill - (2nd law of thermodynamics) aka entropy..
We all might as well enjoy our "visit" here on this little planet.. we sure don't have time to waste on the nonsense visited upon us by greed & wars..
