I dont think you are required to, but if you want to use $50 bucks to give them something else, but remember you have to pay tax on the winnings so its more like 400 bucks you won.

You wouldn't have to give the person anything since the ticket was a gift but I would probably share the winnings with the giver if they were as bad or worse off than I am in life. If the giver were better off than I, I'd keep the whole thing.

$500 isn't much nowadays. It was a gift, as if they gave you a $500 gift card for christmas; you don't have to give them any but don't be such a snot the next time they ask you to put some gas in their car.

If someone gave you a ticket, the winnings are yours. But if they are a friend, it would be nice if you take them out to dinner.

Nope, it was a gift. If they wanted the money they should have kept the ticket and bought you a sweater. And shame on them if they ask you for it... Merry Christmas

No... you don't have to give them anything.

Many people give lottery tickets as a present because it is cheap to buy. And most of them don't expect you to win.

It is your present and you don't have to share.
If you want to give them something... buy them a lottery ticket.

I'm not sure on the amount, but I would definitely give them something, after all, if it wasn't for them giving you the ticket you would have had nothing.

Legally no, you are not obligated. Morally, it's up to you. You might also want to consider your friend's feelings. If they are the type to get pissy about it, you might want to consider cutting them in unless they are worth less than $500 to you.
