One that comes to my mind is a slow song that builds up to an intense cresndo. It was by Boston, from their "Don't Look Back" album called "A Man I'll Never Be".

Another song, written in '79 and recorded in '82 by Molly Hatchet was a nice piece called "The Rambler" (which is a love southren rock love song done slow) is good, from their "Beatin' The Odds" album.
