I just got a Wii today and when I try to connect it to the internet with my nintendo wifi usb connector it fails the connection test but it works fine with my nintendo ds. please help me.

are you getting an error code? if so, visit the Nintendo Online Technical Support site, enter the error code and follow the instructions listed.
some initial thoughts:
-- do you have WEP encryption on your router? if so, you may need to re-enter this (capitalization applies)
-- your channel on your router may need to be changed to either "1" or "11" (some people have reported that this has helped)
-- MAC filtering has been known to cause issues
