My grandfather sang this song to me when I was young, and I have never been able to find the song or the lyrics. The words I remember are" Oh Molly O, simple and sweet, plain Molly O, the angels at they feet" ______ Molly O, sweet and divine, plain Molly O, oh say that you'll be mine"
Thanks!

It may be Molly O written by William J. Scanlon for the show Mavourneen in 1942. The first site below has printable sheet music with lyrics which I can just about make out from the small screen shots (click on them to enlarge), it starts;

She's plain Molly O, simple and sweet
My heart is gone. I lay me at her feet
So light her tread, so fatal her gaze
Who would not have my Molly dear

The song is also included in a book 'Erin Go Bragh - A Travelogue In Song' at the second site.

i don't know if this is the one you're thinking of, but there is an old irish tune called

"little molly-o"

to hear the tune, go to the website listed and scroll about 3/4 of the way down the page...
