There are many creatures on the earth, with a wide range of intelligence levels. Isn't it possible that there are some that exist, that might be more intelligent than humans. If, as some scientists claim, we evolved out of the sea, isn't it possible that humans have already evolved beyond what we consider humans? Are we the top of the line?

I just read the previous answers and I'm constantly amazed at the arrogance and ignorance of the human race. We may be the most intelligent species, but only by a narrow margin over the dolphins and the apes. I'd say some of the more intelligent dolphins, whales, and apes are probably more intelligent than some of the less intelligent humans. We shouldn't assume that just because other species can't communicate with us or do the same things we do that they have no intelligence. That's as foolish as thinking that other humans who speak a different language are less intelligent.
Koko, the famous gorilla who knows sign language, has taken I.Q. tests and scored between 70 and 95. That's smarter than some humans I could name, including some very well-known politicians and celebrities.
"For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much--the wheel, New York, wars and so on--while all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man--for precisely the same reasons."

I have an debate with my son about dinosaurs and intelligence...my position is that an incredible variety of shapes and types of dinos evolved...they filled every niche and lived for millions of years...I think it is highly probable that a few evolved some sort of higher intelligence for defense or getting food...maybe they didn't write books, but I think it's possible that language or tool use could have developed...think about how plants and flowers have evolved and helped bees to evolve with them...some things that did develop seem more improbable than intelligence. I believe that things happen for a reason and that humans are a product of their world and environment...the period of intelligent humans is minuscule compared to the millions of years of complex creatures--I'm talking about just a few thousand years compared to 100 million...this time period could easily be missed by some sort of alien scientist of the future...we now, rarely find wood or clothing from 10,000 years ago.
However, I do not believe that there are animals above man, whales, crows, dogs, etc. in existence at this time...we may find that some of the known creatures are a bit smarter than we gave them credit, but there will be no huge surprises....it's just that there have been so many opportunities in the past for this to happen as well...maybe there is room only for one smart one at a time. I also don't think humans will become a great deal smarter without genetic engineering because there has to be a reason to develop more intelligence...the smart guy doesn't always get the girls does he? As a matter of fact, we will probably need to use genetic engineering to keep the intelligence we have

If you look at the fossil record evolution progressed from simple forms 600 million plus years ago gradually increasing in complexity of structure over eons till the present.
There is no evidence of creatures "devolving" into simpler forms so all organisms are at there peak at the present.
Large scale extinctions like the Dinosaurs probably had more to do with changes in the atmosphere like a reduction in the volume of oxygen from 35% to the current 21% caused by meteoric impact and large scale volcanism due to the subsequent rupturing of the earths crust.

Humans, on this earth, are by far the most intelligent. All animals' intellect are based mainly on their instincts. With repetetive learning, and minute skills in problem solving, animals (not including humans) are very limited to their capabilities. The reason evolution to some people is so unbelieveable, is the fact that humans couldn't simply pop-out of the evolution chain with being 1100% smarter than any other lifeform. All scientists agree that evolution was nature's way of doing what it had to do to survive. This is called adaption. In the way of adaption, creatures "adapt" to the environment, they need to dig a hole, they grow claws etc etc. It is hard to believe that a creature's way of living became so complicated that it had to develope a brain that was capable of creating jets, computers, and cell phones. So to answer your question... Humans most definetely are the "top of the line" species and we were not created by evolution, but by a higher power such as God.

We are the top of the line, but we are about to evolve to even
higher level. Scientists have invented electrodes or some
other devices where a keyboard can be controlled just by
thinking. Bio-technology is becoming awesome!
We have already evolved to grow taller, live longer &
be in better health - the future is just around the corner.

you're creating an extremely subject-loose mistake in putting human values onto characteristics and then ordering them into some form of score gadget. it somewhat is somewhat pushing it to call any specific trait the "optimal" - however intelligence does look a enormously powerful one. you additionally can choose for to check out the words "dominant" and "remarkable species" - what do those mean to you? there are quite a few organisms that are enormously 'dominant' in this international that have not have been given the form of intelligence that we would evaluate reliable. i think of I understand what your factor is, yet i think of you misunderstand evolution in case you think of intelligence a technique or the different makes the holder proof against organic determination. Resistant, debatably, yet determination operates in a lot of techniques. it somewhat is the top product that counts (ie the genome). you would be able to perhaps be appropriate that intelligence outweighs many different characteristics, yet i could recommend that (a) that's a minimum of slightly context-dependant, and (b) no longer a panacea. there are a number of 'clever' organisms interior the international (reckoning on your definition of 'clever'), yet few of them are as dominant as people. As an element be conscious, there have curiously been a minimum of a few circumstances interior the previous few thousand years while people could have fallen out into the dustbin of historic past, yet a technique or the different controlled to tug by way of. That replaced into probably by using intelligence, yet could consistent with danger have in basic terms been by using dumb luck. we don't understand. If people disappear, there could lower back upward push up a globally 'dominant' species, yet for many of this international's existance, it style of feels that domestically dominant organisms have been the norm. Having a single 'dominant' species seems to have somewhat knocked the gadget out of whack. we will see (or extremely, we can't see, yet it's going to be interesting) what takes place while we end our run!

There are no smarter creatures on Earth than human beings. Humans are and have been the dominant species on Earth for thousands of years. We are the dominant species because we are smart enough to adapt the environment to suit our needs. No other species on Earth is smart enough to do this.

to consider humans as top of the line would argue against the theory of evolution. I doubt we have maxxed out and that further growth intelligence-wise is down the road. If this is it then God is not as great as many think he is...lol
