This phrase is a sign of our arrogance.
God will bless who He sees fit. It is true that we have been blessed and it is my hope that we will enjoy these blessings in the future. I believe, however, that the majority of the earth's population would like to see us taken down a notch or two and we are likely to do it to ourselves by our arrogance and greed.
I doubt that God or anyone else blesses the arrogant or greedy.

I don't think that saying "God Bless America" is being egoistic. You must always have some feelings of patriotism towards your motherland, and this is just a way to express your love for your nation.
If you say God bless the universe, you are saying that with philantropic feelings (rather than patriotic). "God bless the Universe" is definitely a more inclusive slogan. But, any nation in the world would have slogans praising their motherland, many of which would be more jingoistic than the one you mentioned...
PS: I'm not an american

It goes "God Bless America" not "God Bless ONLY America". It is a prayer not a proclamation, even if we act as if it is. And the Bible says that Jews are God's chosen people. I don't remember where in the Bible it says this, but I know it is in there. I know, that in addition to it being in the Old Testament, in Revealations, Christ raises over one hundred thousand Jews to give testament to him. This is to the comment about Jews being God's chosen people in response to your answer. It doesn't say that only Jews will be loved by God.

It's a prayer, put to song by a great American named Irving Berlin (who, by the way, was a Jew).

But you're absolutely right. You and Tiny Tim are closer to the Spirit of Christianity when you say, "God bless us everyone."

I would never say God Bless America. Unless I was using it as a swear term, like my dad does.

Well, let's line up and give you a big pat on the back for being so PC..

It's not egocentric to say God bless America. Why do people get so offended about stupid crap? Just b/c we didn't include another nation doesn't mean we don't love them or think of them. It's just a patriotic thing to say. Get over yourself

It's egotistical to ask for a blessing.. wouldnt that make every beleiver in god egotistical. Arent we all really egotistical anyway. we all think were entitled to be the special one that will light the world. Even though were probably not.
