Why was Talia Shire's character (Adrian) written out of the Rocky series?

I saw an interview where Stallone said it was just a plot device. However, it could be that Shire just wasn't interested in being in the movie (more likely).

Sly made the right move in writing her character out from the story. It made Rocky's longing for love (in spite of having a son) real and important. Thus, the film shows how a survivor he is.
